Environment for Music Composition

The Environment for Music Composition is a comprehensive collection of software for computer-assisted music composition, score printing and editing, digital sound synthesis, and sound visualization in a virtual-reality environment. The Environment has been implemented on the computing facilities of the Computer Music Project of the University of Illinois Experimental Music Studios and on the facilities of the Center for Computational Science and Technology at Argonne National Laboratory.

Today, the Environment is being used by composers of experimental concert music to search for new ways to write concert music, by faculty to teach music composition and sound synthesis, and by computational scientists to explore the aural representation of complex data sets in scientific sonification experiments.
