Note that for GigE, you *can't* turn off auto-negotiation -- it's required by the spec. Some GigE devices may not work well or at all if you try to turn off auto-negotiation for other speeds, too.

IIRC, Brad is correct. For GigE, autoneg off is invalid. You _must_ autonegotiate. However, I still force. Here is my ETHTOOL_OPTS line that seems to work:

ETHTOOL_OPTS="speed 1000 duplex full autoneg on"
