Re: [AG-TECH] Any more H.264 news?

Hi Andrew,

The only major issues that we're seeing revolve around firewire/dv support.
On Windows, firewire capture shows flashing vertical white lines (as has
probably already been mentioned on the list), and on Linux (Ubuntu) vic
can't see any firewire devices, and I have the device permissions set
correctly as far as I can tell so I don't think the problem would be on my
end. I'm guessing that the Linux issue is due to the current Linux packages
(from Chris at UQ) not actually including the "enhanced vic" code that
supports DV and was developed at UQ, but rather just the new
h.264-supporting code from SUMOVER. Is this correct, and if so, will these
codebases be merged?

UQ Vislab vic doesn't do any transcoding from DV (or HDV) firewire devices to other codecs, so if the codebase was merged as it stands now, it wouldn't do what you are trying to do anyway.

Have you tried using DV4Linux so that your Camcorder can be seen as a V4L device? I haven't tried it myself.

As for the flashing verticle line artifacts on Windows, I don't seem them, but I was using a quad-core 2.6GHz Xeon.

Cheers,
Doug
