Re: [AG-TECH] Upgrading from AG 3.0.2 to 3.1 on Slack 11

I'm upgrading several 3.0.2 machines to 3.1 on Slack 11 and VIC is

vic: problem opening ip data socket

If I replace the VIC that comes with 3.0.2, I don't get this message
and VIC opens as expected.

I also noticed that the same version is in both packages,
2.8ucl-1.3.0, so what else changed from 3.0.2 to 3.1?

Jeremy,

The recommended way to upgrade is to download and run the installer:
http://www.vislab.uq.edu.au/research/accessgrid/software/ slackware/SL-11.0/AG-install-3.1-SL11.i686-2-1.run
(beware length of link) which updates a number of packages as well as AG3.1 itself (e.g. vic, but others as well). Upgrading individual components is _not_ recommended due to various interdependencies between the components.

The full installation instructions are at:
http://www.vislab.uq.edu.au/research/accessgrid/software/ slackware/ag3install.html
(again beware length of link)

The AG package version you should have after upgrade is:
  AccessGrid-3.1-i686-2
and for vic it should be:
  ag-vic-2.8ucl-1.3.0-r4086-i686-1

The last machine upgraded here from 3.0.2 to 3.1 previously had:
  AccessGrid-3.0.2-i686-8
and
  ag-vic-2.8ucl-1.3.0-r4080-i686-1

you can find the installed versions by running ls /var/log/packages | grep Access and ls /var/log/packages | grep vic
