Actually, if you're using OSX 10.4 Tiger, you do need the Tiger install disk to get X11. Apple's X11 download link is only for OSX 10.3 Panther.

Our colleague didn't have easy access to her system disc, which I've
been told would be necessary to install X11. At that point she decided
it was more trouble than it was worth.


Ah.  For the record, Apple's pretty good about offering system add-ons like
X11 and XCode on their website.

PS: Sorry about the late reply -- I need to tweak my Gmail filters.  I
generally auto-archive and label mailing-list traffic, but that's caused
problems in situations like this.  Does anyone know how to not auto-archive
a thread when I've participated in it?
