Hi Stephen
Thanks to Toms reply I found that it was the Certificate. I now have a 
dedicated machine for my Bridgeserver. It is definitly faster and 
appears more stable we will be giving it a good test today.
If all goes well we could do some tests and try and find out why there 
is this sluggishness when the Bridge is on the same machines as the 
VenueServer if it is of interest to people.
