Re: [AG-TECH] Venue and Bridge Server specs

Agreed on the crashing. Our venueserver hasn't had any problems and it runs 24/7. It usually only needs to be restarted about once ever month or so...

Concerning configuration and setup, our main venueserver runs on the same machine as one of our bridges, while a second machine serves mostly as a second bridge (geographically separated) but can serve as a backup venueserver in times of crisis.

One machine is a P3 1Ghz, the other a P4 2.8Ghz, both with 2 GB of mem.

Neither has had an issue with performance and we host some fairly large meetings occassionally...

Your VenueServer crashes a lot? hmm. I actually run ours on the same machine that does our Audio and Video for the node we have here. This was simple because when I was installing it last year, it was deemed that that was 'the AccessGrid Linux machine'. Whether that's smart or not, I don't know, but I've found it to be very stable. It's a single P4/3Ghz with 1GB RAM. The machine was recently reformatted and reinstalled (now Debian Sarge instead of RedHat 9) because of a failing harddrive (Dell and their Maxtors ... sheesh). The VenueServer had to be restarted occaisionally, but I'm thinking it was a few months between intervals. We have a bridge server on a different machine (another 3Ghz P4 that does web stuff), since because of the audio and video VICs on the AV machine, they cannot occupy the same machine.

Relating to this, I also wondered if people generally run their bridge
server and venue server on the same of separate machines?

We currently run ours on the same machine (a P4 1.7Ghz with 512MB RAM). The
venueserver crashes fairly often, and I sometimes find that restarting the
bridge server helps, so I assume the bridge server sometimes puts a lot of
load on the server.

Subject: [AG-TECH] Venue and Bridge Server specs

Dear all,
Seeking for some information related to the hardware I need for our own
venue/bridge server I found two threads with no answer to this question. It seems to me that the venue server doesnt need heavy resources, but I'm
not so sure about the bridge server.
I would really appreciate the sites that hold/organise very big meetings (as
Argonne with SCGlobal for instance), and have much experience in these
matters, give us some guidelines about the specs recommended (or the
place/website where I could gather some information). Kind regards,
Natalia.
