Re: [AG-TECH] AG session for network staff ?

I think that's a very interesting event. I would really like audio troubleshooting play an important role on the node ops level.

Unfortunately 7th, 8th of July our node will be holding a very important event (and we will be very busy the days before). If that's the final date, i'll try to record the session or something.

... that's seems to be an interesting point, to record this kind of events, that are of interest for the whole community. They can be played on certain dates continuously, like one of those TVs on the internet. It's pretty easy to record a video/audio session using RTPtools, and to play it basis on a regular schedule using cron (the only problem is the size of the files, but it can be reduced using RCBridge).

It seems that is of no cost to schedule this records to be played that way... is it?

It seems to me that we have a couple of different audiences. One audience is the node ops, they are interested in how to troubleshoot at their node level, and all the other things Mike mentioned. The other audience is the network administrators, who might be interested in what they need to know about multicast peering, router configuration, firewalling, etc.....maybe we could have a couple of sessions addressing issues that are relevant to the different audiences?

Michael,

I think the most productive thing would be to give us some overview of how multicasting works relative to things like polycom or webcasting.
Something we can use to explain it to a user. Then show us how to troubleshoot various problems we've encountered and what info our network admins need in order to solve problems.

I've made good use of the Abilene Looking Glass: http://www.accessgrid.org/agdp/guide/looking_glass/1.0/book1.html <http://ratt.uits.iu.edu/routerproxy/abilene/>

Are there other tools, tips, tricks we can use to figure out where the problem is?

One of the biggest problems I have is that by the time I collect the info on a problem and contact my net admins and they get back to me, the meeting ends and everyone disappears. I'd like to be able to pinpoint the problem and be able to go to my net admin and say "Please fix X" and that be it.

Tom,
Monica Rabarison expressed an interest in having a meeting to discuss mutlicast issues and troubleshooting for the access grid. (see below some of the email we have been sending.) I have found two people who are willing to participate in this. Mike O'Conner from ESNet and Greg Bell from LBLNet. Mike is willing to give the presentation and Greg is willing to help answer questions. The first question is can this be done at the 8 am townhall on July 7 (Mike can only do the 8 am presentation) The second question is what kind of discussion do you think would be good to present.
Thank you,
Mike

Mike,

Sure, July 5 for the 8AM pacific meeting is fine, I'll have to decline the later meeting.

We should talk about the audience and topic of discussion.

Mike,
I just heard from Greg and he said that July 5 is ok with him. He also said he would be willing to attend and help answer questions.
Mike would you be willing and could you have a presentation available by July 5? Also, there are usually two meetings for the town hall. One at 8 am pacific and one at 4 pm pacific. Could you and would you be willing to do both meetings. If you can only do the morning one it would be fine.
Thank you,
Mike

Monica et al.,
I was wondering if it would be ok to do the meeting at the
July 5 townhall. I will be on vacation for all of the
dates you listed. Is this ok for MIke and Greg?
Thank you,
Mike

Hi all,

Any date/time except June 10, 13, and 17 is fine for me.

Thanks,

Hello Greg and MIke,
I received this from Monika about the content of the
meeting. The date is not set. If you can't meet at
Brookhaven on the 7th, then we could schedule this for
another time. Monika, do you have another date in mind?
Thank you, Mike
